Villanova Championship

When watching March Madness, you always expect the unexpected. There were a lot of upsets during the tournament with very few blowouts. Who would have thought that the blow out would come in the final as Villanova destroyed Michigan to win the N.C.A.A. Championship? Even though Villanova was considered a juggernaut team this year it did not look that way on paper due to no superstar caliber player on the roster. History will say otherwise as people will look back at Villanova and their planned supremacy through the six games played during the tournament as a team that was just a couple of steps ahead of the rest of the multiple slackers in Division I, a group that was forced to view revolutionary basketball play out before them. Villanova did not have to look like the Golden State Warriors hitting eighteen or more three pointers against Michigan. They found other options to get the job done in order to beat the wolverines. Villanova completed the season at the biggest stage blowing

Loyola-College Cinderella Story

Every year in March Madness there is a Cinderella story or a David and Goliath write up. This year, the talk of the tournament is Loyola-Chicago and being ranked 11 th in rankings, the odds are slim to make it into the sweet 16, but they fought through the adversity by knocking out Miami (ranked 6 th ) and Tennessee (ranked 3 rd ).   The three-decade slump of being out of the NCAA tournament has ended and now they face Nevada in order to make it into the elite eight. In Cinderella stories comes with a dedicated fan followed with a write up and this one is named Susana Gomez. She is a senior studying psychology and can personally attest that Rambler craze has spread through out the university campus. The strange thing about it is she had not watched a Loyola basketball game all season, but she was not alone. Average presence at the Joseph J. Gentile Arena sold around 2000 tickets a game, which is less than half capacity. Coach Moser passed out free hot dogs and t-shirts in order to

Tiger Woods Comeback

Tiger Woods is making an urgent comeback again in the PGA Tour and he did it recently at the Valspar Championship. Tiger Woods has proved critics wrong by making this recent comeback due to being healthy of body, mind and spirit. After coming back from spinal surgery 11 months ago, Tiger Woods took part in the lead early in the final round in just his fourth start of the PGA Tour since being put on hold for a year. Even though his putter may have failed him at times, which made critics say that it was his downfall, he came back late with a birdie from 43 feet on the 71 st hole which left him one behind, but his 39 foot birdie chance forced a playoff on the 72 nd hole fell two feet short. He shot a 70 and broke par in all four rounds in a tournament for the first time since 2013. Tiger Woods told reporters “My game was quite solid this entire week” and also said “As a whole, I felt very good about what I did this week. I believe my game is progressing.” While also adding “As I was

Texans Injury Bug

Football is a high aggressive sport that puts strain on your body every snap made especially if you are a defensive lineman or offensive lineman. One of the Texans star players had to get put on the reserve/retired list due to that aggressive nature.   The Texans made an addition to that list on March 14th by including tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz for three concussions gained by him last season. Texans coach Bill O’Brien had this to say about him “We have a lot of respect for C.J. and we support his decision to retire,” while also adding “I know this was a difficult decision for him. C.J. has been a great teammate and we appreciate his efforts over the past four years. We wish him success in the next phase of his life.” Before the beginning of last season the Texans gave Fiedorowicz a three year, 22 million dollar contract that also added 10 million dollars guaranteed. The Houston Chronicle stated the Texans reworked Fiedorowicz’s contract when the news of his retirement came about. A

March Madness

Another year another March Madness as the NCAA tournament starts on March 15 th to begin the event waited for across the United States. The top number one seeds in the tournament are Virginia, Villanova, Kansas and Xavier with a high percentage of Virginia and Villanova facing in the finals. Many teams in the bracket, but only six games for the teams that advance on to the finals for the last remaining two. A lot of team’s means a chance for an upset with San Diego State ranked sixteenth versus Houston ranked sixth being the highest percentage being in that category. The other chance of an upset is Loyola Chicago ranked eleventh versus Miami ranked sixth being the other. So many things can happen during March Madness which makes it the most watched event during this month due to the unpredictability that can happen from a last second shot, free throw or defensive stop. An opinion of mine is Georgia State can make a Cinderella run how Davidson did in 2008 when Stephen Curry played

Mass Shootings

On February 21 st , 2018 a tragedy happened due to a mass shooting at a school in Florida. This is one of many mass shootings on government property at an educational safe haven. The topic of mass shootings makes society wonder what can the government do to fix the situation and when. Many ideas have been laid out as having panels in hallways to cut of sections of the school to stop the mass shooter. In addition to that allowing a teacher to bear arms, so that they can stop the shooter the same way they’re stopping lives or giving the resource officer a gun instead of having a Taser with Pepper Spray. One idea in mind is having more resource officers to guard all the entrances as well as including a metal detector to stop the shootings from ever happening. Another idea is to make students wear clear book bags just in case something does go by the metal detector undetected.   There are many ways to stop these mass shootings on or off government property, but it makes you
